Junior High School Rugby

First Annual Grade 7/8 T1 Flag Rugby Festival

Newfoundland rugby is excited to bring rugby to junior high schools in the greater St. John’s region. This is a new form of non-contact rugby to introduce the sport in a safe,
fun, and inclusive environment to boys and girls in grades 7 and 8.

The 2026 T1 Flag Rugby Festival will be a two-day event (May 23rd/24th, 2026) hosted at the new Fortis Canada Games Complex.

  • Day 1: Round-robin and qualifying matches
  • Day 2: Playoffs featuring Tier 1 and Tier 2 brackets
  • All teams will play on both days guaranteeing two fun-filled days of rugby

The inaugural Grade 7/8 Flag Rugby Festival will be co-ed and free of charge for all participating schools thanks to generous funding from Rugby Canada and the dedication of many local volunteers.

Please note that the junior high T1 flag rugby games will be a mix between T1 and Rookie rugby involving both flags and the tackling triangle combining the best of both
game forms.
