The Senior Women’s Rock team had a tough start Thursday evening in Halifax. They travelled through the early morning and then a day in the Halifax sun before the match paid its toll. With a final result of 20-19 in favour of the PigDogs, it was a hard-fought match from start to end.

Brianna Hickey started the match out with a great try from just inside the 10m marker, then Holly Rogers ran another one in from about the half, and Jenna Neville converted for two extra points. PigDogs answered back towards the end of the first half with one try.

The second half started with the PigDogs putting another one in over the goal line bringing the score to 12-10. Mona Frey (C) scored and converted her try, then again bringing the Rock to 19. PigDogs rallied and then scored two more tries putting us at a score of 20-19. Our Rock team, though, played to the last minute and again got over the try line by way of Holly Rogers, but the try was called back for a knock-on, and the game was then blown down on regulation time, leaving the score remaining at 20-19 for the Dartmouth PigDogs.

Though not happy with the result, the team remains positive and will look to sure up some of their mistakes in this match and come out hard and fresh Saturday as they face the PEI Abbies at noon at the co-op field in Charlottetown.

Head coach Robert Nugent had the following remarks on his team’s match yesterday “I’m not disappointed in our performance at all; that was officially our first match as a team. And after leaving the island Thursday in the early morning and then sightseeing throughout much of Thursday in Halifax, our women were not at the energy level we wanted. So to play as hard as they did and with a no-quit attitude despite fatigue was something to be proud of for me. After Friday’s training session and reviewing some of our structure issues, we will look more ourselves against the Abbies”!

Let’s get it Rock!!!
