Title: 2025 Canada Games 7’s Coach

Location: St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador

Reporting to: Technical Director

 

The Newfoundland and Labrador Rugby Union (NLRU) is the provincial sporting organization for rugby. The union works to promote, grow, and further the best interests of Rugby Union Football within Newfoundland and Labrador. The union currently consists of clubs in the St. John’s Metropolitan area but is working on expanding through the rest of the province.

 

Position Description:

The NLRU is looking for a 7s-Specific Coach to manage the progression of training and coaching skills for the men’s and women’s programs of long-listed players for the 2025 Canada Summer Games to be held in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, at the Swiler’s Rugby Club.

This position will provide our player’s direction, strong leadership and rugby knowledge and mentor the existing coaches with the programs. This new position will play a vital role in helping the programs to continue their progression by providing elite-level rugby coaching of the game.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Commit to the personal development of the players.
  • Provide team and one-on-one constructive feedback to the players.
  • Utilize and include the existing coaching group and provide sessions to assist with their professional development of the 7s game.
  • Experience and ability to provide practice outlines.
  • Be available pre & post-practice for player and administrative meetings.
  • Provide a fair, equal, optimal and as professional an environment as possible for the players to thrive.
  • Make team selections for tournaments based on performance, ability, and commitment.
  • Assist with recruitment and retention of players
  • Implement and adhere to High-Performance Plan Project

 

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Active World Rugby Level 3 Certification (or working towards Level 3) / Non-Canadian qualifications
  • 7s-Specific Rugby Certification or equivalent experience and qualifications
  • 5 or more years of coaching experience at a Provincial level or higher
  • Current Safe Sport Certification
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have a Canadian work visa.

 

Other Requirements

  • Availability to travel to all games on weekends and practices during weekdays, typically 2-3 per week; additional practices to be implemented nearing competitions
  • Flexible hours
  • Certificate of conduct and vulnerable sector check
