Team NL Rugby 7s is pleased to announce the team selections for the Canada Games to take place in Niagara, Ontario, in August 2022. The Newfoundland and Labrador Rugby Union congratulates all those selected, and the best of luck in Niagara next month!The program started training almost two years ago with 3-per-week rugby skills sessions and strength and conditioning training. Various mental training skills sessions, nutrition and video analysis sessions were added. Additionally, the team travelled to New Brunswick to compete in the East Coast Games and PEI for Atlantic Sevens competitions. The Newfoundland and Labrador Rugby Union also hosted a 5-team Atlantic Competition at the Swilers Complex in May.
Ten players make up the final squad led by coaches Morgan Lovell and Roxanne Butler for the games. Butler commented, “I know the games will be very challenging, and although we have had some great weather at home, we will need to adjust to the Ontario heat to be able to compete. The players have been putting in the hard yards, and we are coming down to the final sprint in preparation. I know they will give it their all on the day, and we are all looking forward to an incredible experience.”
