TEAM NL RUGBY 7S CANADA GAMES FEATURE PLAYER OF THE DAY

Name: Sydney Rose

Position: Center

Club: Swilers RFC

Rugby Roots: I started playing rugby on my high school rugby team in the fall of 2020 when all my friends tried out for it, so I decided I would. Then right after, I joined Rock which led to joining the 7s pod and then Swilers that summer.

Experience: I’m currently in my second year playing rugby; I’ve played in two high school seasons and won silver both years. I travelled to the 2021 Rugby Atlantics in New Brunswick and came in fourth place with the Rock women’s 15s team. I played with the Swilers RFC in the summer of 2021, and we won the George Street sevens tournament and came 2nd overall in the season. Also, in the past few months, I’ve played in the East Coast 7s prep tournaments in PEI, NL and NB, where we played in small tournaments to prepare ourselves for the Canada Games and gain experience in the 7s game. I also travelled to British Columbia with the U17 provincial Rock 15s team for the youth exchange trip, where we played 2 very close games. I also played in this year’s Atlantics on both the u17 and u19 women’s teams, where I helped the u17 place and receive a bronze medal.

Inspiration: I would say my inspiration would be the higher-level athletes that play at the university level and above who present themselves as great role models by starting from a school season like me and then being able to go all the way to playing at a high level of play and show young athletes what hard work and dedication can do.

Fun Fact: A fun fact about me is that I like to collect pins!
